OpenSplice DDS Real-time Integration Software Is Now Available as Open Source

OpenSplice™ DDS low-latency data distribution software, now has an Open Source software licensed under LGPL licensing. This Open Source code base is supported by a range of optional subscription packages from PrismTech that include professional support, productivity and optimization tools, connectors, and other advanced product options.

PrismTech is one of the pioneers and leading vendors of ‘packaged Open Source’ middleware and has a long and successful track record of providing CORBA solutions using this model. This initiative will help spread PrismTech’s expertise in this area to provide a superior DDS solution.

This initiative brings to the Open Source community an advanced data distribution technology fully compliant with the OMG’s DDS v1.2 specification and field-proven with deployments in defense & aerospace, capital markets, ground & air transportation, and SCADA.

This initiative also responds to growing customer demand to bring the proven value of the Open Source software model to low-latency, data caching, and event processing systems. A recent example of this market trend is the US National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009 (H.R. 5658) which includes language that calls for all DoD agencies to consider open source software when procuring manned or unmanned aerial vehicles. Including such language is a milestone for the Open Source movement and the US Federal Government.
