RS Components is one of the largest electronic component suppliers and sourcing providers in the world.  When RS decided to launch their own embedded development system, they turned to Hitex for the complete development.  RS had the concept of a single baseboard with multiple modules, one of which would be a CPU module. 

Initial work was undertaken by Hitex together with RS to determine the target CPU architectures and target module functionality required. There was then a period of time where Hitex took all of this information and worked out a compatible pin-out for the modules which maximised the peripherals and power of each CPU module, while maintaining full compatibility across the various architectures.  Considering the variety and complexity of modern microcontrollers, including the various voltage requirements, this was no simple task!
