CANdroid - Harness the power in your smartphone to debug your embedded systems

You may not realise it but you could be holding in your hand the latest debugging innovation that will enable you to the harness the processing power which you already have in your pocket and use it for debugging on the move.

CANdroid connects seamlessly via Bluetooth to your smart device to allow you to analyse data in the field, either in oscilloscope mode or data-logging mode. This data can then also be emailed directly back to a PC for real-time turnaround and further analysis.

CANdroid Logging CAN data over bluetooth

Initially CANdroid supports CAN analysis, logging and a basic oscilloscope mode. We will be quickly expanding this to support:

  • I2C
  • RS232
  • RS485
  • SPI
  • 8-bit bus analysis
  • Analogue signal generator
  • 8 digital outputs
  • Resistance measurement
  • Auto-ranging DVM (Digital Volt Meter) 0-25V range

All this for less than the price of a decent multimeter!

CANdroid working in a Volvo XC60, analysing CAN data

An example log taken from a Volvo XC60 is available for download here. To view this you can download the Warwick Control X-Analyser demo from here.

Download the item “X-Analyser Demo Software (uses simulated CAN data)” and run the X-Analyser program.  Go to “File -> Load -> Captured File -> … and display it” and locate the log file.  You should see it displayed in the main window.
