Electromagnetic fault injection (EMFI) allows glitch attacks to be performed without making direct electrical contact with the device. This can be particularly advantageous for assemblies with physical access countermeasures or devices that are hardened against traditional voltage glitching.
The ChipSHOUTER is an EMFI tool designed to make testing simple. Low-ESR capacitors charge up to a configurable voltage and then dump their stored energy through special inductors we call “Injection tips”. Sweep through many glitch parameters like timing and pulse width to fine-tune a glitch attack. Multiple calibration targets and our upcoming positioning system provide a complete solution for EMFI testing and research.
